Job Description

Brown Contracting, Inc. is looking for a dependable, hardworking Shop Hand / Small Tool Mechanic to join our company.

This position is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys working with their hands, and has a basic understanding of tools and equipment. You do not need to be an experienced mechanic. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, takes pride in their work, and wants the opportunity to develop their mechanical skills over time.

You will work alongside our experienced mechanic and help keep our shop, tools, and equipment organized, maintained, and ready for our crews. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include basic maintenance and repair of small tools and equipment, shop organization, cleaning, inspections, parts and tool organization, and assisting with larger mechanical repairs as you gain experience.

We are looking for someone who wants to learn and grow with the company.

Job Duties

  • Assist our mechanic with daily shop activities and repairs
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on small power tools and equipment
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain tools and equipment
  • Help diagnose basic mechanical problems
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, greasing, filter changes, and other basic service
  • Organize and maintain shop tools, parts, and supplies
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and putting away parts and supplies
  • Perform daily and weekly inspections and report any issues
  • Assist with larger equipment and vehicle repairs as training and experience develop
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools
  • Mechanically inclined with an interest in learning
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Reliable, hardworking, and punctual
  • Able to follow directions and work safely
  • Own basic hand tools preferred; company will provide specialty tools
  • Previous mechanical or shop experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person

Pay & Benefits

  • $23–$25 per hour, depending on experience
  • Hours: Mon-Fri days (flexible with frequent overtime)
