Skilled Tile Setter & Finisher

Kitchen & Residential Remodel Work

CALTEC Corp. is looking for an experienced Tile Setter and Finisher for residential remodeling work in Southern California.

We are looking for someone who can independently perform high-quality tile installation from layout through final grout and finish work. Current work includes kitchen backsplashes and flooring, with additional residential remodel work possible.

This is private residential work and is not a prevailing wage position to start.

Responsibilities

• Install kitchen backsplash tile and floor tile
• Perform accurate tile layout before installation
• Maintain straight, level, plumb, and consistent grout lines
• Make clean cuts around outlets, cabinets, corners, plumbing, and other finishes
• Install ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and similar finish materials
• Install appropriate backer board, membranes, and setting materials as required
• Perform surface preparation and minor substrate correction
• Mix and apply thinset, mortar, grout, and sealants
• Install trim pieces, edge profiles, transitions, and finished terminations
• Complete grout, caulking, sealing, and final finish work
• Protect existing cabinets, countertops, floors, appliances, and finished surfaces
• Maintain a clean work area during occupied residential remodels
• Identify layout or substrate problems before installing material
• Coordinate with CALTEC Corp. supervision and other trades working in the area

Required Experience

• Professional tile-setting experience
• Strong experience with kitchen backsplashes and residential floor tile
• Ability to perform tile layout independently
• Experience making detailed and finished cuts
• Ability to achieve consistent grout joints and clean finished edges
• Knowledge of proper thinset, grout, substrate preparation, and waterproofing methods
• Ability to read basic plans, dimensions, and layout information
• Ability to use wet saws, grinders, tile cutters, levels, lasers, and standard tile-setting tools
• Able to work independently without constant supervision
• Reliable transportation to project locations
• Strong attention to finished appearance and workmanship

• High-end residential finish work
• Large-format tile
• Natural stone
• Backsplash patterns and detailed layouts
• Schluter or similar tile edge profiles
• Waterproofing systems
• Floor leveling and substrate preparation

Candidates should be prepared to provide photos of completed tile work, particularly kitchen backsplash and flooring installations.

Compensation: Hourly rate based on experience and demonstrated skill.

Project Type: Private residential construction. This position is not subject to prevailing wage requirements.
