Edge Electric of Wisconsin is seeking a Fire Alarm Installer to join our Low Voltage team.
Experienced fire alarm installers are encouraged to apply, but individuals with electrical or low-voltage experience who are willing to learn will also be considered.
This position focuses on the physical installation of commercial fire alarm systems. Our installers run and terminate wiring, install devices and system components, and help prepare systems for testing and final commissioning.
Programming experience is not required but is helpful.
Responsibilities
- Install fire alarm wiring according to project drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
- Install smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, duct detectors, control modules, monitor modules, and related components
- Install and connect fire alarm control panels, power supplies, annunciators, and other system equipment
- Properly terminate, label, test, and document fire alarm circuits
- Read and interpret construction drawings, fire alarm plans, riser diagrams, and device schedules
- Identify wiring or installation issues before system startup and testing
- Perform basic circuit testing and troubleshooting using appropriate test equipment
- Coordinate installation work with electricians, project managers, general contractors, and other trades
- Maintain clean, organized, and code-compliant installations
- Follow company safety procedures and jobsite requirements
- Complete required daily documentation and communicate project progress or concerns
- Assist with system testing, inspections, and corrections when required
- Participate in training and develop fire alarm installation skills
Qualifications
- Fire alarm, electrical, or low-voltage installation experience is preferred but not required
- Willingness and ability to learn fire alarm installation methods, devices, circuits, and applicable codes
- Ability to follow instructions and work from construction drawings
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively with a project team
- Strong communication and jobsite organization skills
- Attention to detail when installing, terminating, labeling, and documenting wiring
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Ability to use ladders, lifts, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial fire alarm installation experience
- Ability to read fire alarm plans, riser diagrams, and device schedules
- Experience terminating and testing conventional or addressable fire alarm circuits
- Familiarity with NEC and NFPA requirements
- Fire alarm system programming or commissioning experience
- NICET certification or interest in obtaining certification
- Experience assisting with inspections and acceptance testing
- Electrical or low-voltage license, certification, or apprenticeship experience
- OSHA or lift-operation certifications
