Position Overview

At GCS-SIGAL, the Construction Intern role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to the construction industry and the many career paths within general contracting. This internship offers the opportunity to learn how commercial construction projects are planned, managed, and built. Depending on your assignment, you may report to and work alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Field Engineers, Estimators, or other construction professionals. Interns will gain experience both in the office and on active jobsites.

Position Functions

  • Creatively and ethically solve challenging issues that arise on our projects with a positive attitude
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to clients and subcontractors on the status of the project
  • Receive, review, and process change orders from subcontractors
  • Accurately and thoroughly prepare subcontractor bids and work scopes
  • Process submittals, RFIs and post and update drawings/contract documents
  • Assist with the creation of a project plan
  • Maintain safety requirements at all times
  • Assist in the development of the initial schedule, site logistics, and phasing plans
  • Assist with client-related items, including billing procedures, change orders, monthly reports, and financial reporting, while working in both office and jobsite settings as assigned
  • Reliable transportation is required; assignments may last 10–12 weeks, 40 hours per week, and may require remote site relocation

Experience/Education

  • Pursuing a BS or MS Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field
