Job Description

JB Smith Construction is seeking an experienced Concrete Foreman to lead concrete operations on commercial and public construction projects in the Washington, DC area.

We are looking for a hands-on working foreman who can take ownership of the concrete scope from layout through completion. The right candidate must be able to read structural drawings, plan upcoming work, manage field crews, coordinate inspections and concrete placements, and maintain both production and quality without requiring constant direction.

This is a field leadership position for someone who knows concrete construction and is willing to work alongside the crew when necessary.

English and Spanish bilingual communication skills are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise concrete carpenters, finishers, and laborers
  • Plan daily and upcoming manpower, materials, equipment, and work activities
  • Read and interpret structural drawings, details, and specifications
  • Perform and verify layout, elevations, dimensions, and benchmarks
  • Coordinate formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, sleeves, blockouts, anchor bolts, and concrete placements
  • Direct construction of footings, foundations, walls, slabs, equipment pads, curbs, and other structural and site concrete
  • Coordinate concrete orders, pump trucks, inspections, testing, and placements
  • Perform pre-pour checks of formwork, reinforcing, dimensions, elevations, embeds, and penetrations
  • Maintain crew productivity while ensuring work meets project drawings, specifications, and quality requirements
  • Plan several days ahead to ensure labor, materials, equipment, and information are available when needed
  • Coordinate daily with the Superintendent and Project Manager
  • Identify drawing conflicts, field conditions, and potential change-order work before proceeding
  • Track manpower, quantities installed, deliveries, and daily production
  • Maintain accurate daily documentation and progress photos
  • Enforce company safety requirements and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Lead from the front and assist the crew with hands-on work when needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial concrete construction experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Concrete Foreman, Assistant Foreman, or Lead Carpenter
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and structural concrete construction
  • Strong knowledge of concrete formwork and forming systems
  • Ability to read structural drawings and concrete details independently
  • Experience with reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves, and blockouts
  • Ability to perform layout and work from established benchmarks and elevations
  • Experience coordinating concrete pours, inspections, testing, and deliveries
  • Ability to effectively lead crews and maintain production
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and planning
  • Dependable, organized, and able to communicate effectively with field and office management
  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • Valid driver's license preferred

What We're Looking For

We need a foreman who owns the work.

You should be comfortable reviewing the plans, laying out the work, developing a plan for your crew, identifying what will be needed several days in advance, and communicating problems before they impact production or schedule.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, keeps the crew productive, maintains a safe and organized jobsite, and understands that good planning is just as important as working hard.

Compensation

$45.00–$55.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability.

Compensation will meet or exceed all applicable prevailing-wage and fringe-benefit requirements on covered projects.
