Job Summary

The Geo-Structural Engineer will use their in-depth knowledge of geotechnical concepts in combination with their advanced understanding of structural concepts to provide complete foundation and structural designs related to infrastructure supporting the telecommunications industry and beyond. They will often work closely together with our engineering and construction team to incorporate their design into a cohesive multi-disciplinary engineering report or construction package. They will offer support to other engineering and construction projects within the company as required. The position requires day-to-day team communication, project planning, organization, training, direction, and control to meet the company's engineering goals and requirements.


Key Responsibilities ●

Develop complete structural designs and construction documents from project initiation to project completion, including construction support. Designs may include but are not limited to tower foundations, equipment steel support frames and foundations, communications shelter designs and structural analyses, shelter support frames and foundations, solar array support frames and foundations, equipment platform structural analyses, tower appurtenance mount structural analyses, equipment anchorage, etc.

● Apply critical and creative thinking to develop innovative designs suited for Alaska’s extreme environments and remote construction challenges.

● Review and collaborate on designs and drawings with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, subcontractors, project managers and construction managers, ensuring compliance with the project scope, budget, engineering ethics, industry standards, codes and regulations.

● Conduct site visits and assessments as necessary.

● Develop various written documents as required by customers such as feasibility studies, structural analysis reports with supporting calculations and site visit assessment reports.

● Effectively communicate with AutoCAD technicians to produce drawings.

● Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, including company employees at various levels, clients, vendors, government regulators, and other outside companies and individuals.

● Mentor junior engineers.


Qualifications ●

MUST be licensed by the State of Alaska as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer(CE or SE). A licensed SE is preferred.

● 2+ years of design experience after licensure is preferred.

● Familiar with AutoCAD drafting procedures.

● Experienced with standard construction practices and national building code and design standards including but not limited to OSHA, IBC, ASCE 7, NDS, and ACI 318.

● Experience with TIA 222 is preferred.

● Foundation design experience in permafrost, rock and conventional soils using piles, rock anchors and reinforced concrete.

● Design experience using steel, aluminum, wood and concrete materials.

● Proficient with standard office software (MS Excel, MS Word, Teams and Outlook).

● Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Mathcad, Enercalc, Hilti or Simpson Anchor Design Software and RISA3D is preferred.

● Broad familiarity with all aspects of civil and structural construction is preferred.

● Highly articulate and able to deliver verbal and written reports.

● Detail-oriented with a strong desire for excellence.

● Must possess a valid driver’s license.

● Available and able to travel for site visits (up to 15% of the time).
