Description

Journeyman Electricians install new underground tele/data ducts, provide temporary power and lighting to structures and install new electrical service during new construction, remodel and/or renovation type construction projects. In addition, they perform preventive maintenance and upgrades to electrical wiring systems, conduit and electronic control systems. At Pieper, Journey Electricians will be exposed to and may work on electrical circuits and conductors with voltages ranging from 0 to 600v.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

The State of Texas requires all Electricians to be licensed before they can legally perform work. The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation regulates electrician licensing.

DUTIES

Journeyman electricians identify, troubleshoot and repair problems in electrical wiring that occur in commercial, industrial or residential setting. Journeyman electricians are expected to be able to run tests, isolate problems, replace faulty sections of wiring, lay conduit and perform other tasks as necessary.

BASIC SKILLS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Journeyman Electricians should demonstrate good math skills, knowing how to properly read a measuring tape, taking measurements, working with numbers and reading blueprints. Since Journeyman Electricians need to be able to identify wires by color, they must have good eye sight and be able to distinguish colors. This must have good hand-eye coordination, motor skills and motion control.

Journeyman Electrician must be able to constantly work using their hands as this accounts for their dominant and primary work capability. This will include constant hand grasping, wrist flexation, fingering, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, use of hand/power tools, use of diagnostic measuring/testing equipment, working in small tight quarters and working at high elevations. They must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 70 lbs. and be able to use material handling equipment to safely push/pull up to 300 lbs on wheels to perform their job effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENTS

Journeyman Electricians must be acclimated to working outdoors in hot or cold weather. Completing electrical tasks often require journeyman electricians to work on single or multi-story structures at various elevations from 4’ – 100’ high using step ladders, extensions ladders, elevated work platforms, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts. In addition, journeyman electricians are exposed to working on flat and steep pitched roofs with high elevations up to 120’ or more from ground level. Other work conditions often include working in trenches up to 15’ deep, tight narrow crawl spaces in control rooms, shafts, chases, attics, basements, below ground electrical vaults, manholes, lift stations and other similar work areas classified as confined spaces entry work.
