Position Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the company’s fleet, traffic control equipment, trailers, sanitation equipment, and other operational assets. This role performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to keep equipment safe, reliable, and available for field operations across multiple service lines.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with gas and diesel-powered equipment, solid troubleshooting skills, and a consistent focus on safety and efficiency. The Mechanic must be able to work independently, prioritize repairs effectively, respond quickly to operational needs, and mobilize to other company offices or job sites as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain company vehicles, trailers, equipment, and machinery.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, lubrication, filter replacements, and scheduled service intervals.
  • Identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related issues and complete necessary repairs in a timely manner.
  • Conduct equipment and vehicle inspections to ensure safe operating conditions and compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, inspections, parts usage, and service schedules.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and operations personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Repair and maintain traffic control equipment, sanitation equipment, trailers, and other operational assets as assigned.
  • Order, track, and maintain inventory of parts, tools, supplies, and shop equipment.
  • Respond to breakdowns and equipment failures, including field service calls when necessary.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work environment.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Assist with equipment setup, inspections, and operational readiness for field crews.
  • Communicate maintenance needs, repair recommendations, and equipment status updates to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of diesel mechanic experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of general mechanic experience
  • Ability to perform physical work and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Experience operating large non-CDL trucks (20'–24')
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while consistently maintaining a safe demeanor
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel/mobilize to other company offices or job sites as needed
