Description

The primary goal of a Design Engineer II is to support the engineering and preconstruction coordination of projects. Ability to manage multiple aspects of a project from initial design through completion with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex HVAC and/or Plumbing systems, including load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment selection.
  • Develop detailed ductwork and piping layouts and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Provide input during project planning and execution phases to optimize designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and improve overall project outcomes.
  • Participate in design-build meetings and client presentations to represent the engineering team.
  • Conduct site visits to verify design feasibility, gather data, and oversee installation quality.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems and recommend improvements or upgrades.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Stay informed of advancements in HVAC technology, codes, and industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the commercial construction space
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of system types, equipment, installation standards and procedures is necessary.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others is essential.
  • Must be fully versed in local and State building codes.
  • Proficiency in Trace 700, AutoCAD Version 2023 and other design software.
  • Revit 2024 or BIM experience is preferred
  • Prior experience with mechanical contractor or engineering consultant preferred.

  • Occasional walking, standing and bending
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to travel and stand for extended periods, use PPE
